2 Operating System Support List

This tool has been tested under the following operating systems:

Windows® 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Beginning with MPLAB IDE v7.51, MPLAB IDE and PICkit 2 will no longer be tested on Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows NT. MPLAB IDE and PICkit 2 may continue to work under these operating systems, but their operation will no longer be verified through testing.

4 Known Problems

The following is a list of known problems. For more information on operation, please see the online help file for the PICkit 2 (hlpPICkit2.chm). Bolded prefix represents internal tracking numbers.

· To use the PICkit 2 as a debugger, two 4.7KW pull-down resistors are needed on pins ICSPDAT and ICSPCLK.

SSR 29042: When enabled as a Debugger, the tool name is displayed twice in the status bar.

SSR 29329: Check All and Uncheck All buttons under Settings>Warnings do not work.

PK2 -3: When PICkit 2 selected as debugger, the error "PK2Error0008" may be reported on clearing all memory. Check your memory to see if it is clear. If not, switch to PICkit 2 as a programmer to clear the memory, and then switch back to PICkit 2 as a debugger.

"Microchip Baseline parts and 8/14/20-pin Midrange parts (including the PIc16F690) do not have the In Circuit Debug module on production silicon parts.  You will need to get a header module to be able to debug these parts.  For the PIC16F690, this part is the AC162061 - MPLAB ICD 2 Header Interface for PIC16F690.

Most 18/28/40-pin parts include the ICD module on the production die.

(This is also why there is a separate Debug Express kit.)"
